Happy 1st Birthday Moo

Last year Mollie came into this world on Mothers day, and what a Mothers day. I wasn’t even sure if I was going to have her on that day, I was due to be induced. So I had no idea. My last post I wrote a Mollies 1 year update if you want to have a read.

At the weekend we planned to give Mollie a 1st birthday much like her older brother had for his. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate that first big milestone.

So the night before we tidied up and set to work putting up some crepe paper chains and blowing up balloons. All ready for the party the next day.

It was Sunday so Henry still had a swimming lesson so he did that and when they came back we set the rest of the decorations. Nothing to fancy just some banners and a party table cloth.

It was so lovely to have so many important people all together in one house. It warms my heart to know that even after 4 and a half years ‘mummy club’ is still so important to us that we still try and make to each others special occasions. Even if we miss regular play dates.

Mollie wasn’t too overwhelmed by the amount of people, although she may have been a little confused as to why there was a lot of people. All the older children were playing really nicely together too.

Mollies 1 year update

A whole year, boy, did that fly by fast!

A whole year ago I was on the verge of having Mollie forcibly removed via an impending induction. Thankfully she decided to come on her own but left me right until the 11th hour, I was actually in hospital ready to start the induction process when it all started.

That could well be another blog post at later date so watch this space.

The last update I did was Mollies 9 month update and that seems like a lifetime ago, if you want to read even further then go and check out Mollie’s 6 month update. It’s quite astonishing how much they learn over such a short amount of time.

I’m still getting Mollie weighed each time she goes up a months age, but now she is one I probably wont be going as often as that. Maybe every couple of months. I’m at the point now where I can barely carry her, just getting her up the stairs is becoming a real challenge. She now weighs 22lb 10oz (10.02kg), which sounds an awful lot. So I did a comparison and Henry weighed this at about 15 months. That’s shocking to me, but then again she did start off  2lb heavier.

Birthday gifts for 1 year old girl.

What do you get a 1 year old for her first birthday when they have an older sibling?

That was the biggest question we had when choosing birthday presents for Mollie. We kept virtually everything we had for Henry when he was a baby and ever since Mollie was about 4 months old we have had all these toys out for her.

There is a whole array of stuff, shape sorters of various descriptions, and anything and everything that makes a noise. That was before you add in that we had Christmas a few months ago, and yes we did get a few more things then. So what did we do?

We just decided where possible to limit presents. She is only 1 so luckily has no concept of what is going to happen. The obvious thing to start with was some clothing, she grows out of her clothes very quickly so it seemed like a sensible idea as a starting point;

Dino Charger, Ready! – Ordinary moments 18 #10

The ‘Beast from the East’ made another visit the weekend, nowhere near as bad as last time but it was still extremely cold. Apart from a food shop we had no plans all weekend (partly due to next weekend business). We stayed in, and did very little, that was all part of the plan, the weather just confirmed it.

At some point last week we had caught an episode of Power Rangers Dino Charge. Henry had never seen any before but had heard of it, his friends at playgroup often play it while they are waiting to go in. So he has a very vague idea. He watched the episode and was very intrigued. So inevitably at some point on Saturday he asked to watch it again. Thankfully (or not, I haven’t made my mind up) we found both seasons of it on Netflix.

I think you can probably guess what happened next.

4th Birthday and an interview with my 4 year old.

This post is for you Henry as much as it’s for us, it’s a way for you to look back on your birthday in years to come. For us to show you what things we did on your special day. So for as long as you want us to we will strive to make it special. All because you were the one that made us who we are now and you were the one to make us Mummy and Daddy. So here’s your 4th birthday. Happy Birthday Little Man.

The night before Henrys birthday we’ve started a little tradition, nothing too extravagant as its something we would like to keep up as long as he wants too. We put up birthday banners and make a present pile with some balloons. We try to get a helium balloon of his age too, just because, why not. It all helps to add a little excitement to his morning the following day. If you want to have a look at the gifts we got him have a read in Birthday Gifts for 4 year old boy.

He was much more excited about his birthday this year I think he understood more. He came downstairs in the morning and didn’t know where to look. It was a simple morning he opened his presents and had a little go on his new bike. After getting ready for the day, he took the bike outside, you can read more about that in ‘Big boys bike’.

Big boys bike – Ordinary moments 18 #9

Henry was 4 this week and although he has a balance bike we got him a bigger bike with stabilizers on for his main present.

After all his presents were opened Chris took him out to go and pick his own helmet and chose one that matched his new bike. He was very pleased with it, there was orange on it which happens to be one of his favourite colours. He was beaming when he came home to show me, he couldn’t wait to put it back on so I could have a proper look.

Chris and Henry then took his new bike and helmet out in the street to try out. I watched from the window as Mollie was napping, I was so proud seeing him posing for his picture on his new bike.

When he took it outside he was excited and apprehensive, ready to go but also very cautious of his abilities to do it. He did like it and he had a good go but he didn’t last very long outside he got very tired (soft play the day before wore him out).

Birthday Gifts for 4 year old boy.

Our eldest turns 4 this week and for me its bittersweet, its his last birthday before starting school. We have a couple of things planned for his birthday to really make the most of it, especially as he seems to have a good understanding of his birthday this year. I shall probably spend a good portion of it reflecting on the past 4 years. After all its been 4 years since I became a mum.

We always find it a bit difficult having Henrys birthday not far from Christmas, luckily this time we knew back at Christmas what we were going to get him as his main present. We considered getting it for him for Christmas but decided against it as he probably wouldn’t have got much use out of it until now anyway.

A couple of the gifts we bought in December and they were initially for Christmas as well but we again we decided to save some for his birthday. They are all available still at various retailers, bear in mind we didn’t necessarily pay the prices they may be advertised at. As  I say some were purchased months ago.
